Guild Meeting

The Indiana Midwives Association Guild

"Getting the Bill Passed!"

March 19, 2008
at the home of
Mary Helen Ayres
922 W 7th St.
Bloomington, IN.
Ph# 812-334-3564.

We will start at 10:00 a.m. and go into the afternoon.

Please bring a dish for lunch.

Guild Meetings are open to members and non-members of the IMA. The Indiana Midwifery Taskforce is our legislative organization in Indiana, and members of the IMT are also invited to this guild.

Here are the topics we hope to cover :

  • Information about why we are seeking legislation, and what we have done thus far, to get our licensure bill passed.
  • The language of the bill and what happens in a legislative session.
  • Updates of our last legislative session.
  • The newly hired lobbyist and what she has done for us so far, and what we hope for the 2009 session.
  • How Indiana is working with The Big Push for Midwives and NARM (North American Registry of Midwives) on legislative strategies and bill language.
  • Focus on techniques for midwives to get their clients involved in the legislative effort, and what midwives can do to get them involved.
  • Consumer functions, potlucks, letter writing parties, homebirth picnics, and fundraising events. We will discuss databases and email lists and their functions. We will do some planning of upcoming consumer legislative events around the state, and discuss area workshops for consumers.

Please come and get your questions answered, and get inspired to work on getting midwifery legal in Indiana!

For more information, call Mary Helen, 812-334-3564 (out of town until 3-16) or Jennifer, 812-825-3158
